Advanced Wilderness First Aid is essential in any disaster situation. Too often wedepend on hospitals and paramedics. What if they are unable to reach you because of washed out roads and bridges, snow storm or slides? YOU must be prepared to take care of yourself, your friends, your family, your community.
Advanced Wilderness First Aid will give you the confidence to deal with any level of emergency. This course covers: Anatomy of a Wilderness Crisis; Anatomy of the Musculoskeletal System; Asthma; Cold-Related Injuries; Environmental Emergencies & Survival Skills; Heat-Related Injuries; Medical Emergencies & Critical Care; Patient Lifting & Moving; Principles of Fracture Care; Response & Assessment; Soft Tissue Injuries & Medical Emergencies; Spinal Cord Injury Management; Sprains & Strains Advanced.
Day One: Patient Assessment and Critical Care; The Principles and Management of Traumatic Injuries; Book and Scenario based learning; Quiz
Day Two: Medical Emergencies; Environmental Emergencies; Book and Scenario based learning; Quiz
Day Three: Drowning and Near Drowning; Making litters; Transport of Patients; Quiz
Day Four: Field Practice Scenarios & Final Exam
Day 1, 2 and 1/2 of the day 3 we are hosted inside with practice times outside.
The second half of day 3 and 4 we will practice our skills outside. The night of day 3 is a camp situation so bring what you need for camping. Breakfast in the morning of day 4 is included.
Please bring "something" for soup on for the first night. We will throw it all into a pot and see what happens... (It has never turned out bad yet). Bring something to snack on for lunch on day 4.

We will be outside rain or shine so bring the required clothing. Bring whatever first aid kit or day pack that you typically take with you. (this is a great opportunity to try out your gear and see if it will perform the way you need it to). If you do not have a SAM splint - you can purchase one for your kit for $20.
Cost includes course books, adult CPR, Advanced Wilderness First Aid Card and one breakfast.
Students who pass the course will receive a SOLO WFA certification, valid for two years.
